Congressionally appointed commission assesses long-term nuclear threats.
The Strategic Posture Commission has released its year-long threat assessment report, formally recommending that the United States prepare its nuclear weapons arsenal for the potential of simultaneous war between China and Russia.
Congress formed and appointed the Strategic Posture Commission in 2022, appointing twelve members to assess long-term threats to the United States and recommend action steps to address those threats. The panel did not disclose any evidence of known collaboration between Russia and China but said that current world events point to a near future of nuclear collaboration between the two countries.
The commission stated in the 145-page report that this threat of nuclear collaboration will become more fully realized between 2027 and 2035, so “decisions need to be made now in order for the nation to be prepared.”
“The United States and its allies must be ready to deter and defeat both adversaries simultaneously,” the Strategic Posture Commission stated. “The U.S.-led international order and the values it upholds are at risk from the Chinese and Russian authoritarian regimes.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For members of the Strategic Posture Commission as they assess and provide input on the U.S.’ preparedness.
- For members of Congress as they consider the commission’s findings and appropriate funds for defense.
- For the president and his administration as they pursue sending more military aid to Ukraine and Israel.
